8 June 1871, GOOD DESIGN, of Wick, 49 yrs old, schooner, 85 tons, 5 crew, departed Wick for Stornoway, in ballast, vessel abandoned in dangerous position, partial loss, 4 lives lost, wind NNW1, Pentland, Skerries.

Source: PP Abstracts Returns of Wrecks and Casualties on Coasts of the UK [Record received incomplete].

NMRS, MS/829/68 (no. 2423).

The Pentland Skerries fall within the administrative area of Orkney, and this wreck is assigned accordingly to the quasi-administrative area of Maritime - Orkney. It is unclear what became of the vessel after abandonment, and the map sheet assigned to this record must, accordingly, be considered arbitrary; she may have sunk or stranded within the quasi-administrative area defined as Maritime - Highland.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998).

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 24 March 2004.
