31 January 1871, HALLO, of Norway, brig, 244 tons, unknown crew (say 9), stranded, total loss, 9 lives lost (supposed), wind E6, Dizard Rocks, 1 mile S. of the Buddon [Buddon Ness].

Montrose, 1st Feb. The HALLO (brig), of Dram, was totally wrecked, yesterday, one mile S of the Buddon [Buddon Ness]: crew supposed drowned: cargo not ascertained on account of heavy sea, wreck being under high cliffs.

(Classified as brig: no cargo specified but date of loss cited as 31 January 1871). Hallo: this vessel was wrecked on Dizard Rock, 1 mile S of Boddam? [Buddon], under high cliffs. Capt. Larsen.

Registration: Dram. 244 tons [unspecified].

(Location of loss cited as N57 27.50 W1 47.00).

The map sheet and quasi-administrative area assigned to this record are entirely arbitrary. The loss may have occurred within the areas designated as Maritime - Angus or Maritime - City of Dundee. Dizard Rock or Rocks cannot be located from the available map evidence.

(Re-entered as NK14SW 8080 at cited location NK c. 13 41 [N57 28 W1 47]). The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Notwithstanding the above, a location near Boddam, Aberdeenshire, is preferred, There are no high cliffs near Buddon Ness, or elsewhere around the Outer Tay Estuary.
