Source, LL, No. 17,686, London, Friday, December 23 1870.
NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 11902).
(Classified as brig, in ballast: date of loss cited as 20 December 1870). Scotia: this vessel stranded 1 mile SSE of Muchalls.
Registration: Grimstad. Built 1866. 90 nrt.
(Location of loss cited as N57 0.33 W2 9.75).
I G Whittaker 1998.
(Location entered as NO c. 90 90 [N57 0 W2 10]). The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative, being derived from the unverified location of loss that is suggested by Whittaker. The shape of the coast suggests that the vessel stranded to the SSW of Muchalls, rather than to the SSE as he suggests.
The loss of this vessel may have occurred within the area of map sheets or NO88NE.
The boat found at Burntisland is accepted as having probably derived from the loss of this vessel.
Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 12 August 2005.
