NLO: Treshnish Isles [name centred NM 26 42].

Tobermory, 8th Feb. The TALISMAN, of and from St. John, N.B., for Liverpool, made the land, 6th Feb., after encountering heavy gales, and keeping the pumps constantly going, and came to anchor at night, between Tresenish [Treshnish] islands, the West of Mull, where she was abandoned in the gale, water-logged, and with her masts cut away: the master has came up here for assistance: crew safe.

Tobermory, 12th Feb. The TALISMAN, from St. John, NB, to Liverpool, which was at anchor near Mull, on the 8th Feb., waterlogged, has been towed in here.

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 13,069, London, Saturday February 16 1856.

NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 9210).

The map sheet assigned to this record is arbitrary.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably on account of her successful ecovery.
