OS 6" map (1901)
Chambered cairn (OS 6" map annotated by A L F Rivet, 12 July 1954). The end stone and cover stone of a megalithic cist are exposed on moorland behind the policies of Clathic House. They lie on the summit of a low knoll which is natural but may have had an artificial capping of cairn material.
Not listed by Henshall (1972).
M E C Stewart 1961
Situated in undulating pastureland, on the end of a spur, are two stones. The alleged 'end stone' is an orthostat measuring 1.1m x 0.5m x 1.9m high with its long axis NNE-SSW, and leaning at about a 45 degree angle to the E over a slab, lying nearly flush with the ground, which measures 1.6m x 1.2m x 0.1m thick. This slab could have either been a side slab or capstone. The stone content of the knoll is not dense enough to suggest the site of a cairn, and recent cultivation has altered its original profile.
Although it is possible that these stones once formed part of a megalithic structure, there is now insufficient evidence to positively identify them as such.
Surveyed at 1:10,000.
Visited by OS (DWR) 27 February 1974.
(Previously scheduled as Clathick megalithic cist). Scheduled as Clathick House, cist.
