NLO: Sound of Mull [name centred NM 58 46].

Tobermory, 26th July. 'The ASTORIA, of Kinloch, from Liverpool to Wick, is ashore in the Sound of Mull, and must discharge part of cargo to get off.'

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 9792, London, Friday August 1 1845.

NMRS, MS/829/71 (no. 7970).

The map sheet assigned to this record is arbitrary and the loss may have taken place on the SW (Mull) side of the Sounds, within the quasi-administrative area defined as Maritime - Argyll and Bute.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), suggesting that she was refloated.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 8 March 2004.
