NLO: Corran Narrows [name: NN 017 632]

Loch Linnhe [name centred NM 86 47]

Fort William [name: NN 105 740].

Fort William, Inverness, 19th Dec [1857]. The BANSHEE, of Glasgow, Gardner, from Inverness to Corran, in ballast, sank on the 13th Dec., about 4 miles South of this place, after being in contact with the JAMES, Findlay, from Cromarty to Liverpool, which received considerable damage: the crew of the BANSHEE were saved. [Record received incomplete].

NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 9444).

(No classification or cargo specified: date of loss cited as 13 December 1857). Banshee: this vessel was in collision and sank 4 miles south of Fort William (James). Capt. Gardner. Registration: Glasgow.

(Location of loss cited as N56 45.0 W5 15.0).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The map sheet assigned to this record is essentially tentative. The vessel was evidently lost between Fort William and the Corran Narrows, being derived from the unverified location that is cited by Whittaker.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 3 October 2003.
