Architecture Notes

NT17NE 29.02 16611 75418

A carved stone sundial is situated about 72m WNW of the main house (NT17NE 29.00), at the edge of the W lawn.

Standing to about 1m high it was carved with the coat of arms of William 2nd Earl of Annandale. The inscription on the brass plate below the gnomon reads' Made by England, Instrument Maker to Her Majesty Ann, Charing X London'.

An exact duplicate of this sundial can be found at Hopetoun House (NT07NE 13.00).
