The Tolbooth was erected in 1665 AD.

OSA 1793

The old Tolbooth was demolished in 1842 and the present building erected on its site in 1850 AD.

Name Book 1863

The present Town Hall is located at NN 8648 2155. No trace of the Tolbooth was seen.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 21 March 1963.

Architecture Notes

Crieff, Prison.

Precise site uncertain at time of upgrade. 16.08.2000.

Plans held by His Magesty's General Register House, Record Office, Edinburgh. Consisting of a drawing of a reconstructed prison building, with Fle^che, proposed to be built at Crieff dated 5th March 1764, and is one of the 'Forfeited Estate Papers'. Scale 10 foot to 1 inch. Reference "F. E. P.....16".

Collection item SMO C/3/1 has tentatively been linked with Crieff Town Hall (AC 7 August 2002).
