Numbers 24-30 Dean Street were originally the United Presbyterian Church and a Mission Hall (1st and 2nd editions of the OS 25-inch maps, Edinburghshire, 1851 and 1890). The Mission Hall (no.24) became St Bernard's Mission Hall (St Bernard's Church Hall) sometime in the 1880s and survived under this name until the 1960s (Post Office Directories). At some time just after the First World War the church (no.30) was combined with no.26 to form the Pavilion Picture House which was then renamed the Dean Picture House during the 1920s. The building closed as a cinema in 1936. The Mission Hall for the United Presbyterian Church was located at no.31 on the opposite side of the street..
Since closing as a cinema the buildings have seen a variety of uses mostly as a store.
