What would appear to be three 'J' type aircraft sheds (hangars) have been identified from a RAF wartime oblique air photograph (NLA 3, 14, flown 23 February 1941) at the NE perimeter of the airfield. The 'J' Type was designed by Sir William Arrol & Co to assist with the maintenance of aircraft on operational airfields.

The three hangars are shown on the current OS 1:2500 scale digital maps.

Information from RCAHMS (DE), January 2004

The aircraft hangar to the N is a grass covered concrete and steel L type. At the E end of the building are two flat roofed temporary structures housing part of the Forward Support Squadron and Regional Non destructive testing team.

The two J type aircraft hangars were not entered during the survey.

To the immediate NE is the RAF Kinloss dog handling section (NJ 06000 63608), comprising a single storey building with open exercise area to the W. At NJ 05800 63373 is a redundant slate roofed picket post from an earlier period with dog cages to the rear.

The L shed was produced by the Teesside Bridge and Engineering Co. Ltd. and were mainly for aircraft storage and maintenance airfields. The sliding doors give a clearance of over 21m (70ft). The J aircraft hangar was designed by the Air Ministry Directorate of Works and were built by Sir William Arrol & Co (Francis 1996). Almost exactly the same design as the K type, the difference being that the J type had lifting tackle the width of the span.

About 155m to the E of the E aircraft Hangar is the Forward Support Squadron armaments engineering flight and role bay who are housed in single storey blocks
