Archaeology Notes

NN75NE 12 7778 5697.

At NN 7778 5697 on a low knoll commanding an extensive view, are the scant remains of an unusual oval homestead similar to NN75NE 9. The wall has been virtually destroyed by robbing (adjacent depopulated buildings), leaving only a grassy rim suggesting internal measurements of c.15.5m WSW-ENE by 11.0m transversely. A slight gap in the W suggests the position of the entrance. Immediately N of this, in a quarry scoop, is visible one outer facing stone in situ suggesting a wall thickness of c.3.0m. Four metres N of this is another large but displaced boulder probably from the outer face.
