Archaeology Notes

NN72SE 9 7702 2204.

(NN 7707 2206) A very definite, rather circular hillock called Tom-na-Chessaig is close to the river Earn a few yards south of the lane between the Public Hall in Burrell Street, Comrie and the east wall of the U F Church. It is said to be the site of a stone circle which was partially destroyed when the church was built. One great mass of whinstone, with a jumper hole in it still exists.

F R Coles 1911

Tom-na-Chessaig or Tom na Chasaig (the correct name of the hillock could not be found) is a natural hillock centred at NN 7702 2204. There is no evidence of a stone circle. The whinstone, mentioned above measures c2.0m x 1.0m x 0.5m high, and lies prostrate at NN 7701 2205.
