Possibly on map sheet NM54NE.

2 February 1852 MARQUIS OF STAFFORD, of ?, Liverpool to McDuff. Place - Fort William. Went ashore at Salachan Point. Cargo washed out, feared a total wreck. Mackenzie = master. Lloyds List 14 February 1852.

Source: PP Admiralty Register of Wrecks and other Casualties on Shores of the UK 1852 (1852-53 (983) LXI.1)

Inverness, 12th Feb. The MARQUIS OF STAFFORD, Mackenzie, from Liverpool to Macduff, went ashore at Salachan Point, (Fort William), 2nd Feb. The cargo is washed out, and it is feared she will become a total wreck. [Record received incomplete].

NMRS, MS/829/67 (no. 338).

(Classified as sloop: date of loss cited as 19 January 1852). Marquis of Stafford: this vessel was wrecked at Salachan Point, near Fort William. Capt. McKenzie. (19/1/1851?)

Registration: Aberdeen. Built 1847. 47 tons burthern. Length: 14m. Beam: 5m.

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Salachan Point is not noted as such on the 2000 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map but the name probably refers to the headland adjacent to Camas Shalachain [name: NM 612 466], on the N shore of the Sound of Mull.
