Archaeology Notes

NN72SE 16 7798 2481.

12 cairns, one much larger than the others, are scattered over the surface of a green plateau about 10 minutes walk to the SE of the three cairns at Balmuick (NN72NE 2). They are much smaller than the latter. There are two similar mounds "at some distance in another green spot onthe south side of the hill."

Goldie 1882

On a plateau within a cleared area (now heather covered) centred on NN 778 248, there are fourteen irregular cairns; the largest measures about 5.0m long x 2.0m wide x 0.8m high while the smallest is only about 2.0m in diameter x 0.3m high. There is little doubt that these are field clearance heaps associated with the cleared area and/or several old field banks nearby. This is probably the site described above. (Two similar mounds mentioned were not located).

At NN 7798 2480 there are the remains of a circular enclosure measuring 18.0m over a turf and heather-covered stone wall 2.0m wide and 0.5m in maximum height; the entrance is in the WNW side.
