Archaeology Notes

NY17NW 57.00 centred 1288 7910

The prisoner-of -war camp is visible on vertical air photogrpahs (106G/Scot/UK 145, 3346-3348, flown 12 July 1946), which show both the prisoner's compound and the staff accommodation area. The fenced area for the prisoner's is clearly visible on the photographs as is the sports field to the S.

Within the prisoner's compound are 24 huts, half of which are long the other short. The staff area contains 21 huts and buildings, one of which is the chapel (NY17NW 57.01).

The current OS 1:2500 scale digital map shows that there are still six huts/buildings in the staff area, but also that the prisoner's compound has been completely cleared of huts.
