OS 6" map, Orkney, 2nd ed.,(1900).

'Applies to a circular object said to be an antiquity ... No further information could be obtained regarding it'

OS Name Book 1880.

Indeterminate structure, Head of Holland. On the edge of the precipitous cliff that dips to the shore at the extreme E point of the Head of Holland is a construction of stone, the character of which is much obscured by coarse vegetation. It appears to have been a semi- circular wall at least 12ft thick, open on the landward side, the chord measuring approximately 25ft across.

RCAHMS 1946, visited 20 July 1928.

A semi-circular bank of earth and a few loose stones which does not appear to contain any walling. The farmer said that it was utilised as a gun emplacement during the 1914-18 war. A slight bank containing earth-fast stones which runs up to the cliff top ten metres to the north-west may be an associated feature.

Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (GHP), 7 April 1964.
