A bronze hoard was found c.1867 in trenching on the south-west side and within a few yards of the top of a small natural Knoll which lies immediately behind the western-most houses in Monadh-mor, Killin (i.e. area NN 569 325). The objects were apparently tied together.

The hoard, which dates from the seventh century BC, consists of 2 socketed axes, a spearhead, a socketed gouge, a tanged knife and nine rings. Purchased for the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) in 1882 (Accession nos. DQ 50 - 65).

Hoard, found in 1868 while trenching on a small knoll. The objects may have been tied together.
1045. (Socketed axe of Portree type). Socketed axe, smooth, cast, black, untrimmed, jets at mouth; length 65mm, mouth 23 x 24mm, cutting edge 47mm, weight 140 gms. NMAS DQ 52.
1216. (Socketed axe of Meldreth type). Socketed axe, smooth, small falws, trimmed, cleaned (?), now green and black; length 105mm, mouth 22 x 24mm, cutting edge 54mm, weight 170 gms. NMAS DQ 51.
The two axes from the Monmore hoard are interesting in that both have a pronounced 'negative' collar (and everted mouth), where all others have a 'positive' or 'overhanging' collar, if they have one at all. In this respect the two axes are very similar, suggesting that they were made by the same craftsman.
Associated finds: leaf-shaped spearhead, tanged knife, socketed gouge, emi-tubular ring, Covesea armlet, nine rings of varying diameter with oval or round sections.
