Architect T S Tait F.R.I.B.A. Known as The Lake it was c.130m (400ft) long and was the central feature of the Exhibition's most popular promenade. Built of reinforced concrete in which were sunk floodlights. The colour of the lights was constantly changing by means of an automatic switch gear, and the water used in the fountains was aerated giving it a milky appearance. One battery of fountains was discharged almost horizontally and the water projected about 30m (100ft). Total water consumption was 12,500 gallons per minute.
