A market stance is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1869, sheet lxii) directly S of Main Street, Alford. Trapezoidal on plan, it lay between Bank Terrace on the W and Kingsford Road on the E, and measured about 120m from NNE to SSW by up to 110m transversely at the NNE end. By the end of the 19th century the NE corner of the stance had been built upon (1901, sheet lxii.NE), and the whole area is now occupied, largely by houses and their gardens.
