Netherfield Chemical Works, founded 1851 by John Garroway. Works were split in 1873 when North British Railway acquired land for their Coatbridge-Glasgow line. The fertiliser plant on the north side is housed in two storey brick and asbestos sheds of varying dates. There is a one storey and attic, 3 bay office block. On the south side is a modern contact sulphuric acid plant.

John Hume 1974.
