Archaeology Notes

NJ70NE 162 7619 0818

What are probably the remains of a building are situated on the undulating summit of Heather Hill about 340m SE of Policy Lodge (NJ70NE 15.07). The building measures about 18.2m in overall length and tapers from by 8.7m in breadth at the NE end to 6.8m at the SW end. The walls are reduced to heather-grown banks up to 3m in thickness and 0.6m in height, and there is a possible entrance midway along the NW side. A group of at least thirteen cairns, the largest measuring about 2m in diameter, lies immediately SE of the building, while to the NW there are two lengths of stony bank. One bank extends from NNW to SSE over a distance of about 58m, the other lies E and W between it and the building.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 22 July 1999.
