The aircraft hangars, buildings and other structures, which comprise the techincal area of the airfield are situated on the N side of the runways and S of the access road from Crail.
There were spaces for eight hangars laid out, though a RAF WWII vertical air photograph of 1941 (NLA 14, 997, flown 19 June 1941) shows only six were in place at that date. The hangars would have been placed in two rows of four, all of those which were actually constructed have now been removed.
Many of the buildings in the technical area survive inlcuding the 'Trainer' building and repair sheds.
The area is visible on RAF vertical air photographs (106G/Scot/UK 5, 4079-4081, flown 14 April 1946), though by this date two of the aircraft hagngars had been removed.
