Site Management (18 August 2010)

Skye-type thatched cottage. Single storey; 3-bay east front with central door. Single window on west and on short south wall. Rubble-built slightly battered walls with curved angles. End stacks possibly added 1872 (dated stone on north stack); muran thatch roof, secured with netting, ropes and stone weights. Shown on 1st ed. O.S. (1878). Stacks may not be original; dated stone could be re-used. Conceivably, the house was built in 1872.

Activities

Field Visit (10 June 2015)

NF 74124 21016 Whilst the name of the building for the listing records it at one location (grid reference NF 74124 21016), the grid reference held by the listing shows another (grid reference NF 74166 21086). The actual building under this listing, confirmed by it’s Buildings at Risk (BAR) entry is on the opposite side of the road to the south. The actual cottage, listed as having a ‘muran thatch roof, secured with netting, ropes and stone weights’, is a roofless ruin and has been on the Buildings At Risk Register since 2010 (BAR Reference Number 4786). The grid reference and listing description should be updated accordingly.
