Archaeology Notes

NN16NE 1 167 691

Situated immediately above the car park on the N side of the Water of Nevis is a group of about 20 recessed platforms, much damaged by water and land slip. Lying between the 150m and 450m contours, they average 9.1m in diameter and the biggest is 11m. They are of massive construction, revetted on the front lip with large boulders sometimes in two courses; there is evidence of charcoal burning on some platforms. (Information from John Hutchison, Countryside Ranger).

E B Rennie 1988.

A survey was undertaken of these platforms, and those recorded on NN16NE 2, assisted by members of ACFA. Twenty-nine platforms were recorded in this group, mostly above the car park. They were largely stone built but very denuded. The size range was from less than 5.5m to 10.9m.
