(NN 0064 6390) Carn Ghilleasbuig Ruaidh (NAT)

OS 6"map, Argyllshire, 2nd ed., (1900)

A large cairn of stones whose name means 'Archibald Roy's Cairn'.

Name Book 1871.

A cairn, some 18.0m in diameter and 2.0m maximum height. The N half has been quarried out leaving only a rim of overgrown debris around this side. It seems likely that the centre remains intact. The name is still known locally.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (A A) 27 August 1974.

The remains of what has formerly been a substantial cairn; it has measured about 16 m in diameter and still stands to a height of 3m. The centre shows signs of having been dug into, and a trench has been driven into the middle from the SSE side.

RCAHMS 1980, visited 1973.
