Activities

Project (17 March 2022)

GUARD Archaeology Limited undertook an archaeological desk-based assessment and walkover survey of an area proposed for development at Claverhouse on the northern periphery of the City of Dundee. The aims of the study were to assess evidence for the past human use of the area, its archaeological sensitivity, and the potential impact of any development upon the archaeological resource. The walkover survey found no previously unknown cultural heritage sites or artefacts within the proposed development area.

Desk Based Assessment (17 March 2022)

NO 41683 34493 Created by Scott Sutherland, head of sculpture at Dundee College of Art in 1959. The inscription on the plaque at the front of the plinth reads ‘To the memory of all ranks of the 4th and 5th Dundee and Angus Battalions of the Black Watch who died in the Second World War’. The memorial was originally situated to the north of Powrie Castle but was removed westwards to its present position when the A929 was re-aligned. Part of the original dais remains.
