The Dundee Rope Tar Works, part of the Dundee Rope Works located in Union Place, is situated at right angles to the N end of Step Row.
Two storey random rubble building with slated roof, seven bays all blocked in the upper floor N elevation entrance in the E gable. A goods bay is located above the entrance. The building measures about 23.8 by 7.5m overall and is butted against a further brick built structure at the W end.
Built early 19th Century as part of Rope Works now mainly demolished.
