Archaeology Notes

NM68SE 9.02 6720 8456

A group of three rectilinear structures, forming part of the possible township NM68SE 9.00, were investigated as part of an environmental assessment prior to a woodland regeneration scheme.

The largest of these is stone-built, measuring 7m by 4m on a north - south alignment. The extant remains stand to at least four courses high and 1m thick. This structure is depicted as unroofed on the OS 1:10 000 map (1974), and is also visible on aerial photographic coverage (CPE/SCOT/UK 177 frame 1368, flown 07/10/1946). The presence of this and other structures were confirmed by field survey.

Two turf-banked structures flank this building on the northeast and southwest, measuring 4m by 2m and 5m by 3m respectively.
