(NM 9062 3865) Standing Stone (NR)

(Undated) OS annotation.

This standing stone is situated in a level field at the north end of Benderloch Village. It measures 1.1 and 0.2 metres at the base, the longer axis being aligned N-S. It stands 1.5 metres in height.

Visited by OS (DWR) 8 February 1971.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Excavation of part of the area surrounding the standing stone took place as a condition of scheduled monument consent prior to the construction of a new school building. A relict soil horizon was identified within the gravels of the marine terrace, and a possible stakehole cutting this was excavated.

No other archaeological features were observed during the watching brief which was maintained over the rest of the development site.
