Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Union Street is first recorded on McPherson's 1852 'Plan of the Town of Kelso'. At this time it linked Roxburgh Street to Back Way, which was subsequently renamed Bowmont Street.

No 11 Union Street forms part of a terrace of four two-storeyed houses on Union Street (Nos 9-15). They were probably built in the early nineteenth century, though the terrace is not shown on John Wood's 1823 'Town Plan of Kelso'. The facade has been rendered and lined out to resemble ashlar (that is, made to resemble regularly laid dressed stonework). Other notable features include the carved stone front door surround and a first-floor cill-band (band of projecting stonework running the length of the house at window sill height).
