Rosebank is a large house, situated within its own grounds, overlooking the River Tweed. As with several other properties in Kelso, it has an association with the famous novelist Sir Walter Scott who briefly owned the property.
In the late nineteenth century a single-storeyed lodge was built along with gate piers at the foot of the driveway which led to Rosebank. The lodge is notable for the gabled porch over its doorway, which is flanked by a pair of windows. The house is built of 'snecked' rubble, where small stones called 'snecks' are placed between larger stones to break up the lines of each course. The gate piers are of ashlar or dressed masonry.
