Archaeology Notes

NM83SE 5 8605 3005.

Approx NM 8604 3007 A cave which formerly existed behind the gas works in Oban, has now been completely destroyed by quarrying. It is said to have contained several human skeletons and in 1877, two fragments of pottery, a flint chip and quantities of shells were recovered, in addition to human and animal remains. The pottery, which appears to be of Cinerary Urn style and the flint flake are preserved in the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS. (Accession no. HL 378-380).
