Shedden Park Road is a result of the outward growth in Kelso that occurred throughout the later eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, reflecting the desire of the wealthy to escape the crowded town centre. Its buildings are a mixture of terraced two-storeyed houses and larger detached properties. Before Shedden Park was gifted to the burgh, the street was named 'Bullet Loan', possibly named after the French game of 'boules', a version of which was known in Scotland as 'Land Bullet'.
No 23 Shedden Park Road occupies the end of a terraced row of five houses which probably dates to the mid-nineteenth century. All the houses in the row are built in the same style, and stand two storeys high and are built of coursed rubble, with a continuous slated roof. Most retain features such as the original style of windows and the low wall running in front of the terrace that encloses a small front garden.
