Field Visit (September 2022)

Former store building, possibly an ammunition store, built in circa 1900. It is a single-storey, single-bay, rubble-built building with finely finished margins, a doorway to the north and the remainder blank, and a round-arched concrete roof.

NJ 67665 64492 Visited during fieldwork by SCAPE. Brick built roof with a concrete outer surface. The magazine must be associated with the gun battery (2 guns) and flag staff depicted on the 1st edition OS surveyed 1866. Part of the coastal defence against the threat of the third Napoleonic invasion in the 1850s.

Information from S. Boyd and J. Hambly - Scottish Coastal Archaeology and the Problem of Erosion (SCAPE).
