(NM 8040 3772) Cist (NR)

OS 1:10,000 map, (1975)

The remains of a stone cist, which has measured internally about 0.9 metres by 0.5 metres, lie in a slight hollow on the NE flank of Aon Garbh. The cist is aligned ENE by WSW and is roofless, the remains consisting only of the west side-slab and part of the east slab, both of which protrude up to 0.5 metres above the turf. What was probably the south end-slab lies nearby.

RCAHMS 1975, visited May 1968; Information from G E Livock, 1938.

As described.

Surveyed at 1:10 000 scale.

Visited by OS (R D) 22 November 1971.

Activities

Field Visit (May 1968)

NM 803 377. In a slight hollow on the NE flank of Aon Garbh, and about 25m NE of the Os triangulation station, there are the remains of a stone cist which has measured about 0.9m by 0.5m internally. Now roofless, the cist is aligned ENE by WSW and is represented by the W side-slab and by the S half of the E side slab. At the present time the two stones project 0.5m at the most above the turf. What has probably been the S end-slab lies dislodged near by.
