(NM 8364 2763) Bronze Age Cist found 1897 (NAT)
OS 1:10,000 map, (1976)
A cist, approx 27" by 15" by 20" was found in 1897 when excavating foundations for an addition to the steading buildings of Gallanach Beg. The cist contained a beaker near its east end which was broken during the digging. Fragments were discovered which were exibited at the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) and are now at Gallanach House (RCAHMS 1975).

Field Visit (July 1968)
NM 836 276. In 1897, in the course of building operations at the farm of Gallanachbeg, a cist was uncovered at a depth of about 1.83m below ground-level (The Scotsman, 21 April 1897; Faichney, Oban, 18-19). The sides of the cist sloped inwards, and although it measured 0.91m in length by 0.84m in breadth at the top, it narrowed to 0.69m by 0.38m at the bottom. The cist, which was about 0.51m in depth, was covered by a number of flat slabs and contained a Beaker, sherds of which are at present preserved at Gallanach.
