Shiel House, 18th century, with additions/alterations by Ross & Macbeth, 1895, and substantial post-fire renovation (including new porch and windows), 1990s Farmhouse (dubbed 'Paisley' locally, because it was the residence of Coats of Paisley, who tried to grow flax here), with a frontage unconventionally of four bays (see also Lynedale p.22 7). The tradition of the family who have lived here for over a century is that this house also provided accommodation for travellers, with stabling on the ground floor.
