Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Eden House, located in the centre of the village of Ednam, was built in 1772. The building's proximity to the Ednam Water, a ready water supply, saved it in 1885 when fire took hold.

The two-storeyed house is built of stone and covered in white harling. Extensive renovations in the late 1950s led to the roof being covered with modern concrete pantiles.

In about 1787, Robert Burns stayed at Eden House which belonged to his friend, Samuel Robertson, with whom the poet was undertaking a Borders tour.
