Stromness, 27th Feb. The CLIFTON HALL, of Sunderland, reported by the master, who landed at Longhope, with his crew, this morning, as having [Record received incomplete].

NMRS, MS/829/67 (no. 634).

(Classified as barque, with cargo of salt: date of loss cited as 25 February 1869). Clifton Hall: this vessel was abandoned off the Old Man of Hoy, and drifted ashore at Black Crag, on the N side of Hoy Sound.

Registration: Sunderland. Built 1854. 354nrt. Length: 36m. Beam: 8m.

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative, being derived from that cited by Whittaker. Black Crag is noted as such on the 1998 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map, but the Old Man of Hoy is at HY 177 009.
