Archaeology Notes

NM73SW 4 7275 3425.

A ring of six stones, with one in the centre, planned by Prof Thom and located at NM 7275 3425 are seven natural boulders. They do not form a circle, but lie in an almost rectangular area measuring approximately 11m by 5m.

Visited by OS (RD) 18 May 1972; Information from Prof Thom 6 March 1972.

Stone Setting, Barr Leathan: About 140m E of the standing stone described on NM73SW 2, in deep heather, there is a group of six large stones, two of which have been deliberately placed in an upright position and are now exposed to a height of 0.7m; the other four, however, are now lying at random, and one of them has been split by blasting, the charge-hole being still visible. The two uprights suggest that all six stones may have belonged to a setting of prehistoric date, but without excavation their original disposition cannot be determined.

RCAHMS 1980, visited 1975.
