Coupar Angus, Beech Hill Road, Beech Hill Mansion House

Originally a relatively simple two-storyed eighteenth-century house, Beech Hill House figure 19.A, Beech Hill Road had a large bow-fronted T-plan wing added to it early in the nineteenth century. The Union Bank Buildings figure 19.0 and Bank House, Calton Street are also examples of eighteenth-century architecture, with a later, nineteenth-century addition. The west part is approximately symmetrical with a centre chimney gablet and Venetian window motif; the cast, bow-fronted wing was added later. Calton Street was the main thoroughfare east-west before the arrival of turnpike roads and it was appropriate that an important bank building should have a prestigious main street selling. 7 Gray Street is also a former bank office, with a centre first-floor Ionic Venetian window and pediment still a reminder of its status and function within the community.
