Archaeology Notes

NY 2655 8633

During the course of a pre-afforestation survey, a derelict stone building was noted at Cairnknowe. The structure is depicted as a roofed dwelling on the 1st edition of the OS 6 inch map (Dumfriesshire, sheet XLV, 1862) and as no evidence of greater antiquity was observed on the site, an early 19th century date may be likely for construction of the building.

The building has been recently used for stock management.
