A hoard of 24 Anglo-Saxon and other coins, and a piece of silver chain and three large silver rings were found on Inchkenneth before 1831, the date when Major McDonald, the finder, donated a number of coins to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS). The date of deposit is c. 1000 (Thompson 1956). Another 19 coins and a fragment of a silver wire chain are in the British Museum. The coins in the hoard were 6 of Eadgar, 7 of Ethelred II (Anglo-Saxon), 1 of Anlaf (Danish), 1 of Sihtric III (Hiberno-Danish), 1 of Richard II or III (Normandy), 1 "Quentovic", 6 unspecified Carolingian, and 1 Strasbourg denier of Louis IV. (Holy Roman Empire.)

'Fragement of plaited silver braid found with coins of the Viking period on the Isle of Inchkenneth, Hebrides, 1834. Coins include Ethelred II, Onlaf, Edgar, Richard 3rd Duke of Normandy, Louis IV (Strasburg). Thin silver chain of plaited wire 17" long.
