Cruck-framed Mill. This small ruinous building situated on the W bank of a stream some 700m WNW of the deserted township of Ormaig, is of interest as one of the 'water-mills', of the most modern and approved construction, for grinding corn' which were noted on Ulva in 1807. It measures 9.8m from SW to N E by 5.4m over walls of lime-mortared rubble masonry varying in thickness from 0.6m to 0.8m, and the height to wall-head level is 2.7m. Two millstones of micaschist, each having a diameter of 1.4m and a thickness of 0.18m, lie inside the mill. Water was led to the mill from a pond formed by a substantial dam, now breached blocking the stream about 100m N of the mill. A ruined two-roomed building situated about 20m SE of the mill may have been the miller's dwelling. The location of the kiln is uncertain.
