Archaeology Notes

NJ81NW 183 centred 8095 1821

Evidence of small-scale quarrying is visible in an area of sparsely wooded rough pasture immediately SE of Hogholm Cottage. One shallow pit about 40m SE of the cottage is roughly rectangular and measures about 12m from E to W by 8m transversely. A further 50m to the SE there is a cluster of at least nine shallow pits ranging in size from 4m to 14m across.
