OS 1:10000 map (1976)
Dun, An Dun: On the summit of a rocky knoll situated 350m N of Torrans farmhouse, between the road and the S shore of Loch Scridain, there are the remains of a dun, measuring 30m by 14m internally. The wall is now largely reduced to a grass-grown band of rubble, about 0.3m high, in which a few outer facing-stones survive. The entrance, however, situated on the E and measuring about 0.8m in width, is clearly visible; the lowest course of facing-stones lining the S side of the passage together with a short stretch of the outer face of the wall itself are still in position, indicating that at this point the wall had a thickness of about 2.3m. For much of its circuit the wall has evidently been founded on bare rock, and on the NW a considerable rock boss must originally have been incorporated into the base of the wall. The only feature within the interior is a comparatively modern stone-walled enclosure.
