Allathan Quarry (disused) [NAT]

This large, disused quarry was still in use as late as 1971, when it was recorded on vertical aerial photographs taken by the Ordnance Survey (71 178, 164). It is also depicted on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1870, sheet xlvii; 1901, sheet xlvii.NW). Two roofed buildings are shown inside the quarry on the earlier map, but the western had been removed before the end of the 19th century.
