This intermediate station on the Dundee (Broughty Ferry) - Kirkbuddo - Forfar (North Junction) branch line of the former Caledonian Rly was opened by that company on 14 November 1870. It closed to regular passenger traffic (with the line as a whole) on 10 January 1955.
