Field Visit (June 1983)

Harris, Hugh's Brae 2 NM 344 965 NM39NW

On the gently sloping ground to the W of Hugh's Brae there is a group of at least four huts, two of which overlie a mound about 0.8m high. The mound is oval, measuring 11.3m by 10m, and has an external kerb of low boulders; there are traces of other lines of stone-work within the body of the mound, which may have resulted from successive occupation on the site of an oval enclosure with a wall 1.7m thick. About 150m to the NW (NM 342 966) there is a small mound, probably the remains of a hut, measuring 5.7m by 5.3m over a kerb of low boulders, and, 100m to the NN E, an oval hut measuring 5.5m by 3.6m within its wall.
